The Fearless Women “Racin’ For Boobs!”

Battle-Flyer-2

Glitter. Guts. Glory. These 8 women look pretty, but know how to play dirty when it comes to Team Demolition Derby. Since 2011, “Racin’ For Boobs” has become a marquee attraction in the Tournament of Destruction. It is their time. It is their moment to make an impact beyond just wrecking cars. There’s no rules against women driving in “regular” Team Demolition Derby races; an invisible barrier that will be shattered some day soon.

“I always like instilling the belief in females, young and old, that they can do it,” said Megan Decker. “I like breaking that gender barrier and being someone little girls can look up to.”

Colleen Ryan, driver on Double-D Destroyers in 2014, shared a story with Decker about a 6-year-old girl in the stands who saw Decker remove her helmet after the race and was amazed at how pretty she looked even after driving those ‘nasty cars in the mud.’ “I had the biggest smile on my face,” said Decker.

Decker has dominated this race, undefeated in her 4 appearances with victories on both High Risk and Double-D Destroyers. High Risk as a whole leads the overall record 4-1 and this year’s teammates have a combined 12 wins compared to only 1 on Double-D Destroyers. The 2016 High Risk team reunites the “1st 4” High Risk teammates for the first time since they won the inaugural race in 2011.

High-Risk-Trophies

They are 2 teams divided on the track, but 8 women strongly united in raising awareness for breast cancer research, treatment and honoring those unable to see their accomplishments.

“I’m racing in remembrance of my aunt Rosie and cousin Lynn who lost their lives to breast cancer and for all those who are still fighting. Let’s crush this nasty disease,” said Shannin Jacobazzi, the only rookie in this year’s race.

Her fellow Destroyer, Jenny Harvel wants to honor those who have won the battle against cancer and contribute towards finding a cure to help a new generation of women. “I pray there is a cure that ends cancer forever so my daughter Charlotte, and everyone else we love, never has to endure that diagnosis,” said Harvel.

Monikka Shearer exclaimed that Team Demo “is not just a man’s sport” and women have “just as much balls” to race as men. Indeed they do as proven by 2015 Destroyer driver Jody Huffmaster.

“I’m racing for Jody who is a two-time cancer survivor and everyone else who has crushed breast cancer,” said Amber Domrose, one of Huffmaster’s teammates from that race. “I’m racing for Jody kicking cancer’s [expletive],” added Shearer.

Special decorations and messages will adorn the cars of both teams and undoubtedly the cars and trucks within all races next Saturday. Decker adorns her car with dozens of painted pink ribbons, each with the name of someone affected by the disease.

“I have so many messages from people last year thanking me for putting their names, or their loved one’s name, on my car,” said Decker. “It’s a small gesture, but I know it means the world to them and I’m honored to be able to do that.”

High-Risk-hood

There’s a battle against breast cancer to overcome, but for a few moments on the track, these girls still know how to have fun. “When it doubt, just add glitter,” said Domrose.

Cousins Lorna and Christy Millette stand by the motto that “Demo Chix Rule” and assure that, no matter if its High Risk or Double-D Destroyers, “little, big or small… we will wreck them all.”
