AFT American Flat Track Racing returns to Dirt Oval 66 for the Chicago Half Mile Memorial Day Weekend, May 28 & 29, 2021.

Memorial Day Weekend events near Chicagoland will kick off with the stars from the Progressive American Flat Track (AFT) Series for the Chicago Half-Mile event at Dirt Oval Route 66. Friday night amateur riders take center stage, while Saturday will be reserved for the pros. The event will mark the return of professional Flat Track racing to the Chicagoland area dirt track for the first time in five years. All three of the Progressive American Flat Track (@AmericanFlatTrack) classes will be in competition at this event. Since scoring her first AFT Main Event win in 2011, the first for a female in Progressive American Flat Track competition, Texter Bauman has gone on to become the winningest rider in AFT Singles competition. She has nearly double the wins of the nearest rider of the list. The Pennsylvania native has the tactical acumen, go-for-broke bravery and iron will of a rider larger than her diminutive size that, at times, makes her practically unstoppable at the Mile and Half-Mile events.

The Red Bull KTM Factory Race Team rider is one of three family members that will be racing this Saturday at the “Dirty O”. Shayna’s husband, Briar Bauman will be on hand defending his Mission Foods AFT SuperTwins Championship from 2020 aboard the Factory Indian FTR750. Texter-Bauman’s brother Cory will also be in competition in the AFT Production Twins class on the G&G Racing Yamaha MT-07.

Briar following a long climb up the dirt track pecking order now stands alone as the sports undisputed master. The Salinas, California, native worked his way into the premier AFT Twins class as a precocious youngster in 2012 and promptly won the Rookie of the Year award. He built on that early success for the better part of the decade, scoring four career victories heading into the 2019 campaign.

With the formidable factory Indian Motorcycle effort behind him, Bauman at last tapped into the depth of his full potential in ‘19. When he more than doubled his career wins tally and notched up 15 podiums all en route to a dominant Grand National Champion triumph.

And he accomplished this despite being pit up against reigning champion Jared Mees on identical equipment. Perhaps even more remarkably, Bauman managed to do so while secretly nursing a broken left wrist all season long.

Bauman was even more impressive during his 2020 title defense. He set a new personal best for race wins in a season at six, while securing 13 podiums in 15 races en route to his second successive title victory.

Bauman will be looking for his first win of the 2021 season returning to the Dirt Oval 66 for the first time in four years. He will be one of many looking to kick start their season with an exciting finish at the impressive track. The Progressive American Flat Track Chicago Half-Mile event at the Dirt Oval at Route 66 will be an event you don’t want to miss!
