School Bus Dirt Track Racing

Out of the school yard and into the dirt track! For the first-time ever in Joliet, school buses will race in reverse! Yes, you’ll see the buses race both forward and BACKWARDS on the dirt track! No school zone speed limits to slow them down either. Expect pushing, shoving, and more twisted chaos when the drivers are all amped up on pumpkin spice & adrenaline!  

Payouts: 1st Place $1000, 2nd $500, 3rd $300 | $500 to best decorated judged by crowd

Driver Requirements: All drivers must be at least sixteen (16) years of age with valid proof of license.  Attendance at pre race drivers meeting is mandatory. Race Transponder is MANDATORY. If you need to rent one, contact track for more info (email:rules@dirtoval66.com).

Full face helmet, seat belt and long sleeve pants and shirt are mandatory.  A fire suit is recommended, but not mandatory. Driver must fill out all proper paperwork and registration on event day. 

  1. Any American made school bus with a wheelbase that is stock for year, make, and model.  A 35-70 passenger size bus must be used.  NO SMALL BUSES.  No rear engine buses.   No alterations allowed except as specified.
  2. The glass, with the exception of the front windshield, may be removed. This is not mandatory but is highly recommended.  The seats may be removed but not mandatory. 
  3. Stock gas tanks may be used. If using a boat type gas tank, it may be mounted overtop of rear axles in the bus and must be fully covered with a steel container. No electrical fuel pumps. 
  4. The battery may be relocated inside the bus, but must be securely mounted and covered in case of turnover. 
  5. Bumpers, frame, and suspension must remain stock. If bumpers need to be replaced, use similar type material as stock. No reinforcement of bumpers. 
  6. Creative paint jobs and adding decorations to the bus is highly encouraged.  Decorations must be securely fastened.  Vulgar or obscene lettering or objects are not permitted.
  7. No passengers or riders allowed. DRIVER AND BUS WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.
  8. This is a race, not a demolition derby format, but wrecks are bound to happen. If that’s a problem, better keep it parked in the school yard.
